Changes

By Sue Voyles / January 12, 2018 /

Yes, I know it’s cliché to say the only constant in life is change. In fact, maybe change is just becoming the ‘normal’ because it seems like changes are coming at us almost every minute, every hour, every day.

Last year, an article in Forbes suggested that “changes in technology represent the main challenge facing tomorrow’s business leaders.” But you already knew that – just think about the number of smartphones, apps, software updates or any other technology you’ve interacted with in the last five years.

But in the midst of all this change, do we have time to sit back and think about what it all means? It seems like time for just thinking, pondering and digesting all these changes is so precious and so hard to come by. (After all, we’re really busy just dealing with the changes as they happen.)

This year, I hope to spend some blocks of time just thinking about all these changes and how they apply to our business and the businesses of our clients, to see what the big picture is. Let’s face it, things change and while sometimes those trends go away after a time, other things keep growing into bigger trends and significant ideas.

I remember hearing from a futurist at an event a few years back. He was talking about changes in society around a particular topic, and it was fascinating to hear him talk about the future. These are clearly people who think about changes and try to digest and understand them to know how they’re going to affect the bigger picture. So while we’re in the middle of all these changes, I hope we all have more time to think instead of just reacting to them.
