Giving Back

By Sue Voyles / April 16, 2018 / ,

April is celebrated as National Volunteer Month in the U.S. and volunteering is a great way for you and your company to give back. In fact, many companies encourage their employees to volunteer for their favorite cause and give them a paid day off to do it. One report showed that 90 percent of companies found a positive correlation between volunteer participation and employee engagement.

Even small things can make you feel great about giving back to your community. For example, I was at a women’s leadership event and one of the networking activities was a bingo game where we had to get to know the other attendees and ask them to sign off on our bingo square for various things. One of those things was that you recycle in your office. It’s a small thing, but I recycle regularly in our office, taking paper to the recycle bin at the local school that is used for fundraising.

As a company we have been affiliated with the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center in Detroit since 2012 and we’re proud to be supporting a 174-year-old nonprofit that is leading the way in education and workforce development in the city.

So whatever matters to you, your employees, and your company, I hope that you’ll take this time to go out there and show support for your favorite cause.
